JWL Interiors were appointed to carry out the interior fit-out for Hays Travel at their branch in Ely. As the UK’s largest independent travel agent, the client required a high-standard retail environment that was both welcoming for customers and functional for the sales team. The main focus was delivering a clean, modern, open-plan aesthetic that aligned with the brand’s national identity. Additionally, ensuring the project was complete adhering the strict high-street deadline so as not to affect trade.

Customer's Challenge
The challenge in Ely was to transform a retail unit with uneven perimeter walls into a sleek, professional space within a short timeframe. The client required a perfectly square and straight finish to the interior to allow for the seamless installation of retail furniture. Furthermore, the walls needed structural reinforcement to support the weight of heavy brochure racks, digital monitors, and extensive shelving units essential for a busy travel agency.
Our Solution
To ensure a flawless finish, we installed metal stud and track wall liners to the entire perimeter of the shop. In this case, this created the perfectly straight and plumb surfaces required. To provide the necessary strength for the shop’s displays, we integrated MDF pattressing between the metal studs. This allowed for secure fixings for monitors and brochure racks at any point along the walls.
We also constructed metal stud partitions to define the staff back-office and Bureau areas. We then had to fit a high-specification suspended ceiling system throughout to provide a bright, uniform look. Every wall had a tape and fill finish using our signature method, creating a smooth surface ready for the final brand decoration. As a result, the robust and professional high-end retail space was delivered to the client’s exact specifications.
